Twestival Review

A team of intrepid party animals headed down to Twestival last night, a packed out ‘tweet-up’ just off Trafalgar Square, with all proceeds going to charity. The event was a roaring success, bringing together a vibrant mix of people involved in everything from social media, digital, tech, advertising, journalism and beyond. The only requirement for attendance was a healthy obsession with the micro-blogging site. With name tags complete with @signs, and cocktails called ‘The Tweet’ and ‘The DM’ (that’s a nod to twitter’s direct message function, non-nerds) Twestival’s lengthly sponsors list was proof that brands are recognising the value of this audience.

The online ‘noise’ made in the run up to the event and in it’s aftermath reached critical mass today as the term ‘Twestival’ became the 8th most tweeted across the globe, according to Twitter’s official trending list. For an idea dreamt up in less than 140 characters to rub shoulders with the likes of Wall Street and Obama in the twitter rankings – it seems there’s no stopping the tweets!

Roll on next year’s Twestival, and congratulations @timhoang, @benmatthews, @amandita and @tommalcolm for putting a great idea into action.

Here’s one of the shirts flown over as a raffle prize from Twitter HQ, modelled by Rainier PR Consultant Bryony Beynon.
